  1. Welcome to Adventures with OSLO™ Tools & Gadgets by Science for Kids!

  3. This CD-ROM is designed for children ages 5 through 14 and contains FIVE PROGRAMS IN ONE!  A coloring gallery, an animated storybook, a maze arcade, a discovery database, and an adventure game.

  5. This program operates on both Macintosh® and Windows™ computers.
  6. THIS "Read Me" FILE PERTAINS TO THE MACINTOSH VERSION.

  8. This "Read Me" file will offer you helpful tips and advice on getting the best performance from your hardware and software — with our CD's and with others that you may use.  We also have a Product Registration Form at the end of this file.  All registered owners will receive free CD-ROM demos of future Science for Kids' programs as they become available.

  10. PRINT THIS DOCUMENT by selecting the "Print" command from the "File" menu on your menu bar.

  12. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  13. •  25 MHz 68030 CPU or faster running System 6.0.7 or later
  14. •  13" or larger 256 color display
  15. •  3MB of available RAM  (6MB preferred)
  16. •  CD-ROM drive (double-speed preferred)
  17. •  Hard drive with 6MB of space available

  19. TO INSTALL AND START OSLO's TOOLS & GADGETS:
  20. 1.  Insert CD-ROM disc into drive; double click OSLO's Tools & Gadgets icon.
  21. 2.  Drag folder labeled "OSLO" to desktop to make a copy of it.
  22. 3.  Open this new desktop folder; double click OSLO's T&G icon to launch.  Have fun!

  24. TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE:
  25. We have licensed, and included for you on this disc,  recent Sound Manager extension software from Apple©.  Sound Manager 3.0 improves the management and playback of sound through your Macintosh® CPU.  Please feel free to copy this software and place it into your System Extensions folder to upgrade your computer's sound capabilities.  You will find this software on this disc in the folder labeled "Drag To System Folder".  This needs to be done only once . Remember to restart your system to load the new extension.  NOTE:  Sound Manager 3.0 is already included on the ROM of AV Macintoshes; do NOT install 3.0 on AV Macintoshes.

  27. Other tips to improve operating performance:
  28. 1.  Quit other open applications before launching OSLO™
  29. 2.  Turn off network connections
  30. 3.  Turn off unnecessary extensions

  32. If you are using an Apple CD-ROM drive you may want to check if you are using the  latest driver initialization software available from Apple (CD-ROM INIT 5.0.1 as of September, 1994).  This System Extension software manages the flow of information from your Apple CD-ROM through your CPU.  You can inquire about obtaining this latest version by calling Apple at 1-800-327-7533.

  34. FILES CREATED ON YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE:
  35. Our OSLO program will create files on your hard disk drive when you drag the "OSLO" folder to your desktop .  The files created and stored on your hard drive are necessary to save graphics and store information created during your use of OSLO's special features, such as Maze Arcade scores, Coloring Book artwork, and Adventure game clues.  Our program will seek and store about 6MB of data on your hard disk drive.  If you need to recapture use of this space for your own purposes remove the entire OSLO folder from your hard drive.

These programs are available in School and Home versions.  Macintosh users can open the "SFK Demos" folder on this disc to view brief demonstrations of our products.  Windows users will receive a demo disc when you register this product (see Registration Form at the end of this "Read Me" file).  Contact your local software dealer or Science for Kids to purchase these products.

  65. WARRANTY AND DISC REPLACEMENT POLICY

Science for Kids warrants for a period of ninety (90) days following the original retail purchase of this copy of Adventures with OSLO™Tools & Gadgets that the program is free from substantial errors or defects that will materially interfere with the operation of the program as described in the user documentation.  This policy applies to the initial purchaser only.  If you believe you have found any such error or defect in the program during the warranty period, call Science for Kids at 910-945-9000 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (EST) Monday through Friday.  Our staff will attempt to help you correct or avoid the problem.  If any such error or defect cannot be corrected or reasonably avoided, Science for Kids will inform you how to obtain a corrected program disc.

If the CD-ROM disc supplied with this product fails within ninety (90) days of purchase for any reason other than accident or misuse, please return the defective disc together with a dated proof of purchase to Science for Kids, Box 519, Lewisville, NC  27023, for a free replacement.  This policy applies to the original purchaser only.  Science for Kids will replace program discs damaged for any reason, whether during or after the ninety (90) day free replacement period for $10.00 (includes shipping & handling).  Please send disc and payment to Science for Kids, Box 519, Lewisville, NC  27023.
